Child Care Tuition Scholarship Program

What is the Purpose?
Keep low-income parents in the work force or training for work
Decrease the number of working poor parents who must quit jobs and
go on welfare because they can't afford the cost of child care.
Provide early education opportunities for young children who otherwise
would not be able to afford it.
Who provides funding for these scholarships?
Funding for this program at the Douglas County Child Development Association
is provided by the United Way of Douglas County.
Who provides the child care? Nine non-profit, federally certified full-day centers in Lawrence:
Ballard Center, 842-0729
Brookcreek Learning Center, 865-0022.
Children's Learning Center, 841-2185
Community Children's Center, 842-2515

How do parents get a scholarship?
Parents who are working or are in training or educational programs and
who are income eligible, but who are NOT eligible for Kansas SRS funding,
should call any of the participating centers.
The center will be able to determine whether the parent is eligible & if
there are openings for the child(ren) at this time.
How much of the bill does the scholarship pay?
Scholarships are paid on a sliding scale according to the parent's income.
They pay between 20% and 100% of the child care fee. Parents who have
partial scholarships are billed by the center for the remainder of their bill.
What are the income eligibility guidelines?
Families are eligible to apply if they make no more than the following:
•2 member family - $3,207 per month
•3 member family - $4,023 per month
•4 member family - $4,839 per month
•5 member family - $5.652 per month
•6 member family - $6,468 per month
•7 member family - $7,284 per month
•8 member family - $8,097 per month
•9 member family - $8,913 per month
•10 member family - $9,729 per month
